The class will run from 3:30 until 5:00pm, beginning on January 13th. Currently equally mixed gender. Limited space in Thursday Class by interview only. Possibility of starting a new class for 3rd - 5th Graders mid-term, depending on interest. NewsWelcome back to another Semester with The First Act! We had a wonderful time in the Fall and, as well as working in the classroom improving our skills, we produced three performances with three different groups. The junior class presented a Chinese Folk Tale called 'Three Questions' and did a wonderful job telling the story of two friends on a quest for knowledge and the journey they took to find it. The children at Atlantic Beach Elementary told the story of how one family got together to wish an absent member of their family a 'Happy Holidays'. With singing, dancing, poetry reading, joke-telling and a video camera! The older class are presenting a night of improvisation, theatre games and monologues for parents and friends on Jan 14th and then going into rehearsals with a Japanese Kabuki-style Play to be staged in May. We had several visiting artists during the semester who shared their skills in voice-work, dance and design and look forward to meeting some new artists this semester! We rounded off the season with a wonderfully successful three day Winter Workshop for K-3rd Graders - playwrights in the making! Thanks to all the parents, friends and volunteers who make such a difference and who help to create the magic. Thanks to all my students for enriching my life with their stories and wisdom.Aine Healy-Richardson is happy to come in to discuss offering classes in your school. Come see what it's all about!

Drama Class
Aine Healy-Richardson
We can try out funny walks, or fake a bad depression
We can shout a mighty shout, or don a fierce expression
We can fly around in space, and visit different lands,
And tell stories with our bodies, with our lips and with our hands.
We can make believe we're fancy, or popular or rich. We can play a bossy Fairy or a kind and lovely Witch. We can be a super-hero any time we feel the need, In drama class we let imagination take the lead
There's lots of time for music and plenty space for dance,
Ways to develop your emotions and give yourself a chance
to play a goofy character or one who's awful glum
there's no end of possibilities for who you can become.
We often work in circles, it's a way of being inclusive
And to focus our attention, instead of being elusive
We have to practice eye contact, it's terribly essential
Together with projection, its an actor's best credential
Blocking is another skill, you learn by playing games,
that teach you when to speak, and move, and when to take the reins.
Ensembles make a story good in every single way
No-one's out there on their own, each has his part to play.
So when you are watching TV or listening to hip-hop
We are at the studio, picking out our props
and finding bits of wardrobe to play a zombie dude
Why don't you come see for yourself, now that you're in the mood?
